Why Personal Growth Matters
Why in the world would you want to spend time everyday reading on topics that could help you grow as a person? You watch Oprah and Dr. Phil, so you already know everything, right?
Many people have the exact same mindset. And it's not wrong. It's just not opening yourself to the potential of becoming more than you are.
When you start to build an organization, you are a leader whether you are a team of 1 or 1000. Reading books such as "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie can actually help you help your team as they encounter obstacles in their business.
"The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader" and "Failing Forward" by John C. Maxwell can give you great insights on being an effective leader for your team. You can gather wisdom and ideas on how to deal with a particular problem you or someone you know have been wrestling with.
Even if you aren't encountering challenges in your business, chance! s are, someone on your team is. You can't give what you don't have -- whether it be advice or an action plan. And you won't have wisdom if you don't actively acquire it through books or audios.
Reading 30 minutes a day or even 10 pages a day can go a long way in getting yourself in the right mindset of building your business and helping others. Use a highlighter and take notes as you are reading. This generally helps memory retention as well as pointing out main points when you re-reading a book.
Most local bookstores are a treasure trove for these books under "self-improvement." So pick up a good book and be open to the idea of personal growth. If you do, you'll gain more than you realize, whether it's for yourself or for your organization.
